Taking in-person card payments with a Stripe terminal reader

Learn how to integrate a Stripe terminal reader with Park to enable quick and easy card payments

Stripe terminals allow guests to pay by tapping or swiping a card, bypassing the need to manually enter card information. If you frequently take in-person card payments at your camp office or store, setting up a terminal can be a good way to streamline payments. In this article, we will cover how to set up and use a Stripe terminal with Park.

Connecting your terminal to Park

Please also see Stripe’s support article on how to set up the S700 reader. Once the terminal is turned on and connected to the internet, proceed with the following steps to connect your terminal to Park.

  1. Access the terminal settings in your Stripe dashboard
  1. Under “locations,” choose an existing location or create a new one by clicking “+ New”
  1. In your location, select “+ Register reader”
  1. On the terminal, open the settings by swiping right from the left edge of the screen and clicking the “settings” button that is revealed
  1. In the settings, click “Generate pairing code.” This will give you a three-word code, like apple-grape-orange.
  1. In your Stripe dashboard, enter the provided pairing code under “Registration code.” You may optionally enter a name for your terminal under “Reader name.” Once you are ready, click “Done.”
  1. Your terminal will now appear under the “Readers” section. A reader ID in the form tmr_xxx will be listed next to it.
  1. Now, head to your Settings tab then to the Stripe section on the left nav bar. When you scroll to the bottom of this page you will see the “+ Add Terminal” option.
  1. When you click that option a window will pop up. Give your terminal a name, and enter the reader ID number you saw earlier. When you’re done, click “Save Terminal Connection.”

Taking payments with the terminal

Once your terminal is connected, a new option to “Take payment with card reader” will appear under the credit card payment option in the point of sale. Select this option and click “Charge” on the bottom-right of the point of sale, and the reader will light up to accept payment. Now your guest can tap or swipe their card to complete the transaction.
